It’s hard to think of a single musician from the state of Utah - a lamentable statistic that has recently been disproved by the emergence of Sam Burton, an idiosyncratic young voice that flowered in the land of salt flats, beehives and bigamy and is now flourishing in Los Angeles, where he has quickly made a name for himself.

Burton is the natural heir to a long line of unsung singer songwriters - such ‘downer folk’ troubadours as Bob Desper, Dana Westover and Tucker Zimmerman - whose recordings he weaned himself on at an impressionable age. Following in the footsteps of the forgotten, and having keenly absorbed the music of the ages, Burton has honed his talent with passionate discipline. With his shadowy baritone and subtly intricate picking, his carefully crafted songs ooze rock hard resignation and melancholy conviction, and he has arrived at a style that is both timeless and deeply personal.

‘Fairweather Friend’ features production by Jonathan Wilson (Father John Misty, Angel Olsen, Margo Price) in Topanga and Echo Park and is influenced by the environment of Los Angeles and Burton’s relationship to his own heart and integrity.
