About this item

The live session took place the day after the group recorded the Spiritual Progressions album, in the same studio space but in front of an audience.

Two of the songs from that album, Lokumbe (titled for the great trumpeter aka Hannibal Marvin Peterson) and Sun in the East, are featured here and make for interesting comparisons with the album versions. The other two tracks are Kalaparusha Arha Difda (named after the deeply spiritual tenor saxophonist) previously recorded on Nat’s ‘The Infinite’ album, and a fiery version of Song to the Divine Mother from the Invocations album.

The live ambience adds to the vibe of the day and the group are in stellar form as they explore the themes at length. Concert performances always bring out the best in this group and this recording is a classic example of their cohesion and empathy.
