Last autumn, the Soul Damn Funky crew returned to storied NYC imprint Bassline Records with a second digital-only selection of "New York classics". That was a digital-only affair, hence a pair of sampler singles of which this is the second. Long-serving London DJ Marcia Carr curates side A, offering up the electric-piano rich (and effortlessly soulful) liquid house fluidity of Soul Magic and Ebony Soul's 'Get Your Thing' (as remixed by Stacy Kidd) and Tommy Musto and Victor Simonelli's classic 1993 garage-house spin of Total Eclipse's 'Come Together'). Russell Blackman takes over on the flip, selecting two more Simonelli classics (Groove Committee's lesser-celebrated 'I Wanna Hold You' and he and Musto's smooth, soulful and shuffling take on Federal Hill's 'There's Got To Be a Way').
