Oliver Dollar
Doin’ Ya Thang
About this item
Originally released in 2010 via Jesse Rose’s Made To Play label, Oliver Dollar’s ‘Doin Ya Thang’ has gained iconic status. A standout record that blends deep, rolling basslines with crisp percussion and a catchy, looped vocal hook from a certain Detroit based DJ & producer (spoiler: it's Moodymann, not only that but I'm pretty sure the vocal was recorded when he played right here in Manchester at the Roadhouse for Cutloose!). Built around a stripped-back rhythm and its infectious swing make sure it’s still a fa vinyl since its original release.
STAFF COMMENTS
Matt says: Mad twist of events this record. The Moodymann sample was taken RIGHT HERE in Manchester (I was there!). Oliver Dollar made a track featuring the said vocal sample and the hook off the recording. It obviously blew up, meaning originals of this record from 2011 were fetching upwards of £300! (meanwhile the bootleg, owned by moi, but released on Moodymann's 'Private Collection' was banned for sale on discogs!). Anyway, fast forward to now and Defected have reissued it for all and sundry. House heads rejoice!
