About this item

Tough UK bleep / breakbeat techno classic from 1989 (!) - an essential part of early rave history. Exocet is Tony Mcnabb who only released three records, all on Catt. Very little info exists on Tony, but Catt was a modest label ran out of East Ham during the halcyon days of hardcore and early rave. Listening to the sounds across this EP, one could easily assume Tony was from Sheffield as much as the nation's capital.

Starting with the rainforest primal jack of "Lethal Weapon", which nods to the Trax sound kicking off in Chicago at the time, but with a distinctly London warehouse vibe. "Sweet Talk" deploys the hefty breakbeats and bleep melodies in a very Sheffield style; there's even a primitive vocal sample snatched from the movie "Coming To America" that gives it a bit of a similar feel to 150 Volts' "Hi, I'm Chucky (Wanna Play)" - although nowhere near as frightening!

"Safety Zone" steals the show for us here however, with those vintage drum machines sounding super slick, phazing lead melodies squealing and wobbling into focus and big buzzy bleeps hovering over the whole mix. That one will take you right back to those embryonic warehouse raves that soundtracked England's Summer Of Love. Simple unmissable, and a truly rare and overlooked slice of UK rave history. Do not sleep!!
