About this item

Manchester’s desert-flavoured alt-rock trio Humongous Fungus has a sound to match the organism for which it is named. Comprising the aggressive, distorted guitars and crooning vocals of Willow Grieves, the thundering bass and dulcet tones of Selina Per and the pounding, vibrant drumming of Venus Lee, HuFu interweaves loud, effects-laden riffs with the remnants of its sludgy, psychedelic roots, all with big smiles and a no-punk-no-gain ethos. With influences deeply rooted in late 80s American DIY punk and riot grrrl music, Humongous Fungus have, over their two years of gigging, become ‘a fixture in Manchester’s blossoming punk scene’. Their song ‘Nervous’ was featured on 2025’s 'Little Punk Records Vol. 1', a compilation of the Manchester punk and alternative underground. Now they make their first statement with debut EP ‘Light Up’, six raw and noisy songs of identity, love and anger.

"We are beyond thrilled to announce that our debut EP 'Light Up' will be released on Little Punk Records. Recorded (almost) live at Spirit Studio and mixed by Jae Fleming, 'Light Up' is a raw but considered showcase of what we're all about as a band." - Humongous Fungus

STAFF COMMENTS

Barry says: Snappy percussion and rolling bass licks form a robust and ever-shifting grungy backdrop to the Willow's soaring vocals and athletic fuzz workouts. A superb culmination of talent, and a record that will go down as the start of something big for HuFu. Ace.
