What started out a joke for a truly demented promotional campaign became so much more… originally envisioned as the soundtrack to an imaginary supermarket in the album promo for Hiatus Kaiyote’s “Love Heart Cheat Code”, these sultry and sensual renditions of Hiatus Kaiyote classics, like “Nakamarra”, “Red Room”, “Make Friends” and more, soon took a life of their own. Thus Tres Leches was born, a trio of heart wrenching troubadours unafraid to turn the lights down low and set the mood to “sexy”. Lovingly recorded and mixed in various hotel rooms on off days of tour, these raunchy re-imaginings are certain to stir the passions, ignite the senses and soothe the savage beast within. Tres Leches consists of Hiatus Kaiyote members Paul Bender & Simon Mavin and touring member SilentJay.

Featuring silky versions of tracks from Hiatus Kaiyote’s 3x Grammy-nominated back catalogue, including 2021’s Mood Valiant (#54 in the UK Official Albums Chart, #1 in the Hip Hop and R&B Albums Chart, #4 in the Vinyl Albums Chart, #13 in the Physical Albums Chart and Record Store Chart and more), 2024’s Love Heart Cheat Code (#8 in the Independent Albums Chart, #20 in the UK Official Record Store Chart, #32 in the Vinyl Albums Chart and more), Choose Your Weapon and Tawk Tomahawk.

Music from the band’s catalogue has been sampled in huge tracks from the likes of Kendrick Lamar (“Duckworth”), Anderson Paak (“Without You”), The Carters’ “713”, and Drake’s “Free Smoke”. Hiatus Kaiyote have collaborated with the likes of Brazilian musician Arthur Verocai and Q-Tip, winning props from Erykah Badu, ?uestlove and Prince.

Far from the first side project of the band, Tres Leches follows much loved releases such as The Sweet Enough’s cult classic Marshmallow, Swooping’s Improvised Music 2015-2017 and The Putbacks self-titled debut, with Tres Leches members all collaborating with Theo Parrish on deep house single “What You Gonna Ask For”.
