St. Germain
Rose Rouge - Inc. Joy Orbison Remix
About this item
Killer twelve that revisits the seminal, era-defining track "Rose Rouge" by St. Germain and later on, the Joy O remix of the amazing Jorja Smith cover. 'This remix reminds me of my earlier work - but maybe a more realised take on what I was trying to do back then,' says Joy O. 'I was conscious of how the original track had been sampled many times in house & garage records and wanted to incorporate a bit of that while taking Jorja's version in a new direction.' He most certainly does that. Her sultry vocal mixes perfectly with his UK garage take on the classic St Germain track, taking a turn towards the dancefloor after a breezy, hypnotising intro.

STAFF COMMENTS
Matt says: A cover of one of the most iconic tracks of the last 30 years gets a once over by one of the most iconic producers of the modern bass spectrum. Thankfully, it doesn't attempt to pay tribute to the original, which would be futile. Instead, Joy takes Smith's vocal utterances and adds an entirely new instrumental backing. Perfect for sweaty hot festival days, end-of-night light's on moments of unity and, conversely, warming up a club full of eager beavers with its instantly recognizable hook and enveloping production. A triumph!
