Rightfully adorned as one of the holy trinity of shoegaze (alongside Ride's 'Nowhere' and My Bloody Valentine's 'Loveless'), 'Souvlaki' released at a time where the music press were moving away from shoegaze and towards Britpop and grunge. And whilst the universal plaudits for 'Souvlaki' have mainly been garnered in retrospect, it was always the shoegaze masterpiece that the 90s deserved. With every track being as gorgeous and brimming with exquisite instrumentation as the next, this record shows a band at their absolute peak and quite frankly it's perfect.
