About this item

Presented on this LP are some of Aretha Franklin's greatest recordings from her early years with Columbia Records, recorded between in 1960 and 1962.

Featuring her in small jazz combos (with orchestral backing on some tracks), which included pianist Ray Bryant and bassist Will Lee, these recordings sowed the seeds to Aretha's later success with Atlantic Records and her international endorsement as The Queen Of Soul, and one of the greatest singers of the 20th Century.

Small groups featuring Al Sears or Warren Lucky (tenor sax), Tyree Gleen or Quentin Jackson (trombone), Chauncey "Lord" Westbrook (guitar), Ray Bryant (piano), Bill Lee (bass), Belton "Sticks" Evans or Osie Johnson (drums).
