Hoping to reinvigorate her flagging late 60s career, Dusty Springfield was signed to Atlantic and sent to record an album in Memphis, Tennessee with the Memphis Cats studio band, Jerry Wexler and Arif Mardin, all of whom had worked with her hero Aretha Franklin. Including tracks like "Son Of A Preacher Man", "Just A Little Lovin'", "Don't Forget About Me", "Breakfast In Bed" and "Windmills Of Your Mind" amongst other deep soul numbers, the album was Released in 1969 but didn't take off as hoped and had disappointing sales. However, since that time it has come to be seen as Springfield's definitive work and regularly appears in 'best ever records' charts. It's a perfect soul / pop moment from one of the UK's finest singers.
