Berliner, label owner, producer & DJ Glenn Astro make his debut on Mule Musiq
and it's a doozy! Five (count em!) tracks that perfectly encapsulate what this unique producer is all about. After a lush Rhodes section introduces the record we're thrown into the tumbling daytime house rumbler - "Der Schummler Dub"; perfect for those pill-fuelled 'picnics' in Platt Fields park or your nearest Fallowfield back garden; the quirky perc nuances and gritty, 'dusted' aesthetic are present and correct from the off here. "Le Troisième œil" sees the producer dive into dark, acidic MPC techno, with grating shakers flapping relentlessly against this thin and mystic lead this is surely the track that'll appeal to fans of Detroit's 3 Chairs and especially Marcellus Pittman's mischievous meanderings. "Chubble Gum" opens side B with a collage of blurred and abstract loops that slowly gather momentum and form some kinda of cohesive rhythm. Finally, "Billiger Als Umsonst" sounds like he's got some muck in his MPC! A beautifully jolting rhythm with this audible yet hidden scuff deep in its recesses; another one that should pique the interest of Theo's early Akai experiments. Top stuff here from a producer who's really found his stride. Recommended.
