The Stone Roses must be one of the most loved bands in UK music history. They exploded onto the scene in 1989 with their impossibly perfect debut album, monkeyed around, turned the monochrome indie world into glorious technicolour, lit up our lives for about a year, then disappeared for another four!
With their disappointingly received second album (later upgraded to another classic with the benefit of time!), twiddly-trad rock tour, the drugs, the split, the acrimony, the misery, it seemed as though they'd become that most dreaded of things: just another band. But as time has passed The Roses have just got bigger and bigger, without playing a note, and the level of hysteria which has greeted their reformation has knocked all that negativity into a cocked (Reni?) hat! It looks like the people are ready to dream and believe all over again.
Mad innit? But brilliant.
One Love. Stone Love!
Photographer Ian Tilton has taken some of the most iconic Stone Roses pictures over the years, and we're very excited to be stocking some merchandise featuring those images. We've got bags, T-shirts and a really lovely postcard set. They were produced to coincide with Ian's exhibition of his Roses photographs at Manchester Photographic, and his forthcoming book, which is due out in the Summer. If you live in Manchester or are up here for the Heaton Park gigs, then you really should go and take a look at the exhibition, it's fantastic. And he didn't just photograph The Roses. Check out his website to see some more of his brilliant photos, or buy his rock'n'roll icons postcard set here.
