Hello,
Records:
House, tech-house, techno, electro, electrohouse:
NDF on DFA (Villalobos remix), Soft Cell (Luke Solomon remix), Adultnapper, Conforce, Esa & Mervin Granger, Nacho Marco on We Play House (rapidly turning into one of our favourite house labels)(they have another one out this week), Surgeon's Fabric mix CD, Conrad Schnitzler remixed by Pole, Shed LP/CD, Skudge, SP-X, "Soul Is Back" EP for Detroit heads, "Total 11" Kompakt compilation, and Logo on Kitsune.
Dubstep, UK funky, future beats, wonky-hop:
The VIVEK double pack and mix CD is our ROTW (if you loved the Digital Mystikz LP, then this will be a must), Solar Bears (we nearly missed this one - thank god we didn't!), Detboi CD, Machinedrum EP (more like a mini LP), Monarchy (Sinden remix), Om Unit and DJ Primecuts, Blessings EP, Cosmin TRG / FaltyDL remixing each other, Redlight, number three in the Shortstuff 10" EP series, and Subscape.
Disco, disco-not-disco, cosmic, Italo, Balearic:
The new Holger Czukay 12" on Claremont 56 is our Balearic record of the week (numbered and on gold vinyl!), while the disco ROTW is the new Italians Do It Better 12" by Appaloosa. Italians also bring us a rarites CD, plus compilation CD from offshoot imprint Perseo. Also check the "I'm Starting To Feel OK" mix CD. All are essential. Then we have... Chilly Gonzales on CD (Balearic pop?!), Bruce Haack collection on Stones Throw, Monarchy remixed by Holy Ghost!, Holy Ghost! EP on CD single, Beppe Loda remixed by Bottin, Marbeya Sound, "Disc'O'Lypso' compilation, Heavy Rotation EP and She.
Hip hop, b-boy breaks, funk, soul, jazz, easy, exotica, Latin, African:
The new Madlib "Medicine Show" CD is more jazz than hip hop, but it's our hip hop record of the week anyway. The soul record of the week is the amazing TL Barrett LP/CD. You'll already know the killer opening track from Numero's second "Good God!" collection and the rest is damn fine as well. Essential, and dead limited on vinyl. ROTW in world music also goes to a Light In The Attic offering, the sitar-heavy Gabor Szabo LP - finally on vinyl! the reggae ROTW is the new Roots Manuva 45, and easy listening is Bruce Haack. Other stuff includes Andreya Triana (last week's soul ROTW winner, now on vinyl), Bilal (boy, does this man want to be Prince), Ultramagnetic Foundation LP/CD, Tricky, Big Pimp Jones, DJtzinas, The Four Mints, Lee Mason and the Transatlantics all on 45, another Fela Kuti CD and "Porno Groove II" picture disc.
Right, Match Of The Day is calling again.
