ABOUT THIS ITEM
With its fusion of US style jump-up rhythm and blues (but played with the emphasis on the off beat) and traditional Carribean styles like mento, ska became Jamaica's first truly modern musical genre, and totally swept the island's dancehalls and soundsystem lawn parties in the early 60s. Studio One was at the forefront of this new musical revolution (in fact its name is synonymous with the ska genre), releasing some of the best tracks from the era. This LP includes gems by The Skatalites, Tommy McCook, The Wailers, Roland Alphonso, Don Drummond, Ken Boothe, Delroy Wilson, Jackie Mittoo, The Maytals and many more.
