"Spirits Of Life" features voodoo music recorded by Soul Jazz Records in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The music of voodoo features intense, complex African drum rhythms alongside chanted vocals and is used to bring spirits into the body of worshippers who become possessed. Voodoo was brought to Haiti by slaves and is the lifeline of it's society, later bringing about the revolution that made Haiti the first republic run by Afro-Caribbeans. Haiti is next to Cuba, Jamaica and Puerto Rico in the West Indies and consequently the music is a mixture of heavy African rhythms alongside latin and Jamaican music.
