ABOUT THIS ITEM
"Soul Gospel" tells the story of the link between two of America's most important black music styles; gospel and soul, and includes many classic and extremely rare tracks. This album features many of the most famous gospel and soul crossover artists, such as Aretha Franklin, Staple Singers, Odetta and The Voices Of East Harlem, alongside lesser-known artists such as Clarence Smith, Gospel Artistics and many more. With comprehensive sleeve-notes and exclusive photos, "Soul Gospel" shows how gospel influenced all styles of soul music from 1960s soul and funk right through to the evolution of New York's underground dance clubs in the 1970s and 1980s - with David Mancuso's Loft and Larry Levan's Paradise Garage making anthems out of Gospel tracks such as Staple Singers' "Tripping On Your Love" and Jessy Dixon's "Love Lifted Me". Another work of love from Soul Jazz.
