A combination of compilation and artist LP, this collection brings together 13 funk and (presumably) raw soul tracks made by or featuring the band Raw Soul - Barry Saunders (bass), Maurice Glass (guitar) and Grover Everett (drums). Along with vocalist Lenis Guess, saxophonist Dosey Brockington opened the Brockington & Guess recording studio in Norfolk, USA in the early 70s. Raw Soul became the house band, with Brockington adding horns, and Guess recordings sides there. This collection features hard to find tracks from out of print 45s including cuts done with Lee Fields, Barbara Stant, Sir Guy, Shirley Johnson and more, along with previously unreleased tracks.
