The first volume of "Pillows & Prayers" was just a selection of tracks that the Cherry Red label put together because they liked them. From the Marine Girls, Ben Watt, Tracey Thorn and Everything But The Girl to Felt, Kevin Coyne, Eyeless In Gaza, The Passage, The Monochrome Set, Thomas Leer and The Nightingales, the album is a snap shot of quirky early 80s post punk pop music. Priced at 99p, the album topped the indie charts for 19 weeks on its original 1982 release. Now Cherry Red bring together the original "Pillows & Prayers" album, its Japanese only volume 2 follow up, "Our Brilliant Careers" compilation of rarities from the label (featuring Jane's "It's A Fine Day", Fantastic Something, Marine Girls offshoot Grab Grab The Haddock, Red Box, Morgan Fisher and more) and a 10 track DVD collection. The 48 page booklet is packed with photos, magazine cutting images and a track-by-track overview of all the artists and the whole set.
