New Underground Quality double pack featuring Samuel Andre Madison, 2400 Operator and label boss DJ Jus-Ed. First up is "This Thing" by Sam Madison aka Rev-S. Rolling deep house with a Chi-town shuffle but a distinctly UQ sound palette synonymous with the label. Flip for "NWS Pt.1" by 2400 Operator featuring Rev-S. A dark and cavernous trip similar to DJ Qu's experimental house jams on Strength Music and Earth Tones. That is until the Detroitian Rhodes, shuffled hats and seductive vocal snippets come in - then we're submerged into sublime deep house hypnosis. Disc two starts off with Jus-Ed's "Let's Groove Medley Mix". Featuring his trademark sound palette of wood blocks, hand claps, a square descending bassline and thin, weaving lead lines, Jus-Ed effortlessly constructs one of his essential house blueprints. Fan boys will recognize his use of the 'I'm Coming' sample (actually sung by Ed himself) which is mangled with other various vocal snatches in that typically deep house aesthetic. On the flip we get the 'dub' of the track, or the 'beats' as listed here (in typically MAW style - there's definitely a strong deep house resurgence taking place at the moment - and it’s not just the sounds I'm talking about - is it because the quality of ecstasy has peaked again? Who knows...but Bicep and Local Talk need to be thanking the Amsterdam pill factories if so!). Great double pack from one of those cultish labels whose releases don't hang around long....
