ABOUT THIS ITEM

Claremont 56 are back with one of their highly-anticipated "Originals" compilations, each featuring a selection of tracks from some of the unsung heroes of the Balearic and underground disco scenes. This time the label pick perhaps a 'sung', rather than 'unsung' hero, the mighty Phil Mison, aka Cantoma and half of Reverso 68 with Pete Herbert.

Mison cut his Balearic DJ chops standing in for the legendary Jose Padilla at the equally famous Cafe Del Mar in the early - mid-90s. His sunset sets at the bar became as inspirational as Padilla's to those present, turning a whole new generation on to the delights of what was being termed 'chill out' music. Like the previous "Originals" compilers Mison is always on the look out for musical gems, whether they turn up on B-sides of obscure LPs, appear as promo-only remixes or come box-fresh from the record shop shelves.

From the opening 12 string guitar and psychedelic ragas of Hypno Facto you know you're going to be in for a treat. Compost's set of Ennio Morricone remixes delivers the beautiful Needs rework of "Amore Come Dolore" - sounding more Fleetwood Mac than the band themselves! There's jazz-fusion / cosmic disco from Wolfgang Maus, Latino-funk from Pino Daniele and blissful bossa-soul from Jorge Ben, lush 90s house by The African Dream and Audio For Movement, plus new age chill-out moods from Clifford White, a touch of synth-pop from Maxx Mann, electro-tinted Afro-funk by Christy Essien Igbokwe and more besides.

This is a proper Balearic music selection, bringing that heart-warming Ibizan sunset into your living room to chase the autumn blues away.
