ABOUT THIS ITEM
'Foolish' Felix Dickinson has been DJing for nearly 20 years and producing music for over 13, yet because of his many monikers people often believe ‘they’re not totally familiar’ with his sound. Upon closer inspection most discerning DJs realise they have at least one of his tracks in their box. His tracks have been licensed on mixes by The Unabombers, Chicken Lips, The Glimmer Twins and Rub-n-Tug, and had support from the likes of Harvey, Maurice Fulton, the Idjut Boys and Daniele Baldelli. Now, however, Felix pushes aside his own tracks / edits and gets a chance to dig out some of his other DJ favourites for Claremont 56's essential "Originals" mix CD series.
As you'd expect from a DJ who kicked off his career at Nottingham's DIY soundsystem, spun tunes with Soft Rocks in Brighton and has collaborated with everyone from Harvey, Pete Z, Ray Mang, to Toby Tobias, Felix's mix takes in a few different sounds along the way, making for a great listen. There's some 1980s contemporary jazz from Kolbe-Illenberger-Dauner, mutant disco from Q and Gabi Delgado, plus post-punk electro-rap by Wide Boy Awake - the kind of rarities that are the staple of in-the-know record-collecting cosmic-Balearic heads' DJ sets, but have the rest of us rushing over to check labels or tracklistings. Boogie and disco floor-fillers pop up from King Sporty & The Extras, Ce Moi and Exquisite Taste, while house music takes over with Fingers Inc, Joshua, and Roshelle (surely Rochelle?) Flemming - plus loads more! As ever with "Originals" compilations we're given a musical masterclass from the underground dancefloor - a must for all discerning music fans.
