The early 80s were one of those (many) times when a number of elements all come together at once to change the direction of music. With disco, the influence of Jamaican dub recordings had filtered through to up and coming young talent on the production side of things, while advances in keyboard technology and studio equipment meant new ideas could be realised. A new wave of remixers began to appear on the B-side credits of 12"s, creating not just extended dancefloor versions of the full songs, but completely overhauled and reworked dubs; Francois Kevorkian, Larry Levan, Paul Simpson, M&M, Shep Pettibone, Tee Scott and more all came up with brilliant disco-dubs. On this BBE compilation original disco buyer Dimitri From Paris picks out some of his favourites from the era, re-editing a few exclusively for the collection. From underground anthems to big pop hits, the emphasis here is on extended beats, dropped-out instrumentation, electroid bass and plenty of space. Essential stuff!
