ABOUT THIS ITEM
"Do It Yourself" charts the rise of the independent music industry after punk. As well as new record labels such as Rough Trade, Factory, Small Wonder, Step Forward, many bands simply got on with it themselves, pressing small runs of their own records and selling them to shops or through new distribution networks. Alongside the new bands and labels – distributors, manufacturers, shops, studios, DJs and journalists all played a part in this new movement and an independent music industry was born. This album features classic bands alongside lesser known groups and comes with interviews with and photos of bands, labels, pressing plants, printers, distributors and others who contributed to this new DIY ethic.
