ABOUT THIS ITEM
If Talking Heads were one of the original punk-funk bands, then Tom Tom Club, formed in 1980 by Talking Heads alumni Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz, were one of the seminal disco-not-disco outfits from the post-punk era. Originally created as a side project while Heads' main man David Byrne was off having a 'Life In The Bush Of Ghosts' with Brian Eno, Tom Tom Club went on to make some of the best-loved songs of the era, including quirky disco-rap tune "Wordy Rappinghood", slo-mo hip hop crossover groover "Genius Of Love" and "The Man With The 4-Way Hips". The tracks were recorded at Compass Point with Steven 'Youth Sound' Stanley, aka Little Scratch as producer, after Lee Perry did one of his no-shows. Passing through were Sly & Robbie and percussionist 'Sticky' Thompson, who were recording with Grace Jones in the next studio, while Tina even flew her sisters in to harmonise on the vocals! As side projects go, Tom Tom Club has to be one of the best!
