Don't Break My Heart

About this item

The New Sins Lou Hayter and long-term collaborator Nick Phillips have made a modern take on UB40's reggae classic, 'Don't Break my Heart'. On this track, Lou's vocal stays reverent to the original, a female response to the former version with an acid-pop backing track - it's pure Balearic, acid-pop with a sunshine lilt (it's like a 2012 version of Weatherall's St Etienne 'Only Love Can Break Your Heart' remix).

Marrying their love of 80s pop and acid house, Lou and Nick are devoted music lovers, as the Guardian put it 'you can tell they know as much about Neu! as they do about Chic'.

Having made the break as keyboardist from New Young Pony Club, this is a big year for Lou who has completed her New Sins album in addition to a project with Air's JB Dunckel called Tomorrow's World. Released on limited 12" vinyl, the B side, 'Heartbreaks' is a reworked instrumental of the track replete with Talk Talk inspired guitars. The sound of the summer (er, make that autumn...).

Philippa says: Imagine UB40's classic remade by St Etienne and remixed by Andrew Weatherall in a chugging acid house style... Pure Balearic pop!
