ABOUT THIS ITEM
From the depths of the infamous Glimmers basement HQ rises an infectious groove, a rumbling clatter of analogue beats, synth stabs and bellowing bass. Four seasoned musicians sweating out red-hot funk licks, razor sharp breaks and gibberish scatting. Conducting this noisy barrage: Mo and Benoelie aka The Glimmers; feeding their lifelong affection for schizoid disco and off kilter club music into these henchmen as if they were a battery of walking, talking samplers - the duo's mammoth record collection a source of sonic inspiration. The Disko Drunkards were conceived during late night jam sessions kick-started in 2004 with a steaming take on "Jesus Loves The Acid", a long time Glimmers fave from Ecstasy Club. Their sleazy rendition of Olivia Newton John's legwarmer classic "Let's Get Physical" became a staple on national radio playlists. More impromptu, on-the-spot recorded jams followed, the rough sketches later mixed, re-edited and ph*cked up by The Glimmers into full bodied tracks. The aftermath of these intense showdowns is this 12-track, self-titled, self-released, composed, performed and produced album. Imagine the minimal but explosive raw power of The White Stripes crossbred with the percussive, dub-infested urban jungle funk from Liquid Liquid and the psychedelic freakishness of Funkadelic or The Revolution. Disko Drunkards are a live testament to the legacy of Nile Rodgers' "Good Times" and The Purple One's "Let's Go Crazy" - high powered in delivery, loose on the limbs.
