ABOUT THIS ITEM
Steel An' Skin were a unit composed of young nightclub musicians born in Ghana, Nigeria, St. Kitts, Trinidad and the UK, who previously played with Ginger Johnson's Afrikan Drummers. Members of the legendary 20th Century Steel Band are also present on these recordings, giving a Caribbean twist to the Afro-reggae tunes. Here Honest Jon's reissue the band's debut 12" "Reggae Is Here Once Again". Originally out in 1979 the track is a brilliant fusion of steel pans, reggae basslines and disco rhythms. Better still, and fitting neatly into the general cross-fertilization of the post-punk era, is "Afro Punk Reggae Dub", which is a brilliant dubwise version excursion on "Reggae Is Here Once Again", featuring tons of echo, delay and reverb added to the mix creating an epic Caribbean disco dub. And just to show the varied styles the band produced at the time, the Afro percussion track "Gadzo Drumming" is tacked on too (this is only a shorty, but packs everything in circa one minute). DO NOT MISS!
