About this item
New label Back To The Balearics follow up the superb Maricopa EP with a stunner from Berlin based live music collective Spleen. Part one in their musical odyssey ‘Fusionary' consists of live jams and instrumentation over computer-based syncopation imbuing their music with a strangely organic flow, which is both hypnotic and rhythmic. On the A-side "Not So Far Away" establishes a lopsided rhythm which develops into an irresistable groove once the bassline comes in. Snatches of funk scratches and thick dubby solos augment the sparser moments, while warm keys and vocal chants enter the fray to take the track to the next level. On the flip is the dreamy kosmiche brew of "Works" which pulls jazz and world influneces into its gravitational field, and the horizontal haze of closer "Fragments". Think Kraut-influenced, psychedelic dub funk with a touch of alt pop and you’ll be on the right road, but still miles away.
