ABOUT THIS ITEM

Less than a year after splitting the celebrated Broken Family Band (not “musical differences,” merely “it had run its course,”), frontman Steven Adams is back with new band Singing Adams. The double A-side single "I Need Your Mind" / "Amateur Reactions" is their first release and for Adams it’s a case of new sound, same rapier wit.

“I need your mind but I can’t keep up with it,” says "I Need Your Mind", essentially a song about fancying someone for their brains, and feeling utterly stupid in comparison. On the flipside, "Amateur Reactions" is, says Steven, “essentially a song from the opposite perspective, someone who thinks they have all the answers,” propelled by driving bass and stuttering drums.

Singing Adams came about when the singer/songwriter/guitarist experimented with some bedroom recordings following the dissolution of BFB. “I realised I needed a proper band to bash out the songs. I just asked some people who I really liked, who I thought would be fun to play and sing with, and they said yes,” he says. Those people are bassist Michael Wood (Michaelmas), drummer Melinda Bronstein (Absentee, Wet Paint) and guitar player Matthew Ashton (The Leaf Library, Saloon). Together, they take their name from a former solo project of Steve’s, The Singing Adams. “Once I'd got the band together I decided to keep that name, minus a 'The', and the others pretend not to mind,” he says.
