ABOUT THIS ITEM

Coming from the same neo-kraut scene as bands like K-X-P and Joensuu 1685, Siinai was formed in the cold of the Finnish winter by four friends who all share a long background in the Finnish music scene. With members from bands like Joensuu1685, Zebra and Snake & Äänijännite the band immediately began to create a buzz in Finland. Siinai’s debut album “Olympic Games” is a powerful experience of huge krautrock hymns with giant hooks, motorik marathons, psychedelic soundscapes and melodies of grief and relief. Building repetition leads you to moments of complete bliss. Titles like ”Anthem”, ”Mt. Olympos” Marathon and Olympic Fire strike a grandiose, archaic, and monumental style. The record is almost entirely instrumental and contains no lyrics but still manages to convey emotion, conceptual imagery and pop sensibility.

The 8-minute-plus opening track has even begun to get consistent radio play in Finland. The record was recorded and mixed by the team at Kaiku Studios (Handsome Furs, Moon Duo, Whitest Boy Alive) and mastered by Lupo in Berlin (Drivan, Kim Hiorthøy). Only a few months old, the project is already making significant waves playing a handful of live shows in Finland and recently at SPOT in Denmark. They have also announced collaboration with Spencer Krug of Wolf Parade to be recorded later this year as part of his “Moonface” project for Jagjaguwar.

TOP QUOTE: “Siinai were brilliant: almost totally instrumental, with intense Krautish rhythms, ebbing & flowing melodies delivered with an intensity that only Finnish bands can summon.” Kieron Tyler (MOJO).
