"Inspiration Information" is the 1974 album from the prodigiously talented LA multi-instrumentalist / songwriter Shuggie Otis, and you really REALLY need a copy in your record collection!! Ranging from the uplifting West Coast soul-pop of the title track, through the introspective dreaminess of "Island Letter" and melancholy of the proto-beat boxin' stoned-soul gem "Aht Uh Mi Hed", on to the jazz-blues instrumental "Rainy Day" and drum machine experiments of "XL-30", the album just keeps turning up beautiful, quirky songs. Not hugely successful when it was originally released (maybe it was too far ahead of its time), the album got a reissue via David Byrne's Luaka Bop label back in 2001, creating a whole new audience of fans, and soon after that NY's Scorpio got in on the act, re-releasing the album in its original packaging.
