ABOUT THIS ITEM

"Give It To Me Hot" is a four-track EP that pays tribute to one of the hottest, raunchiest (but sadly short-lived) disco-not-disco / punk-funk groups from the early 80s, Sexual Harrassment. Sexual Harrassment was started by radio DJ Lynn Tolliver whilst he was working at MCA Records, and the Cleveland-based group had a gold single on the Heat/Montage label. Their rarer six-track album from 1983 has become a collector’s item. Here modern day artists who are synonymous with current electro-funk / boogie revival reinterpret the originals with breathtaking results. LA-based vocalist Lil’ Kenny starts us off with a sweat-inducing rendition of "You Are My Sexual Connection". Backed by limit-pushing production from modern funketeer Dâm-Funk, the powerful bassline, searing keys and deep-throated vocals are as dirty and as sexy as it gets. Sweat.X’s interpretation of Sexual Harrassment’s most famous track, "I Need A Freak" is next and is a real sonic delight. Brooding, frustrated synths nag and gurgle beneath the surface while a compulsively dark vocal snarls away in the background. The production on this track is up there with the freshest sounds I've heard for a long while - these sounds really tear and bite in a sinister and aggressive manner - scary shit! Jimmy Edgar contributes a track unlike anything he has ever done before on "Exercise Your Ass Off". Combined with the energizing vocals from G.Rizo, the track reminds me of the 70s New York alt music scene whilst simultaneously feeling like the beginning of the next wave. Future-punk-funk stylings of the highest order! Finally Robert O’Dell closes with "If I Gave You A Party". I give up, someone help me out here. Totally defying any kind of categorization or words - all I can say is 'riot / carnival on some circus / space station set in the year 2080 with a backing of evil hobbits singing the vocals'. The production and ideas on display throughout this EP are some of the most exciting and inspiring sounds I've ever heard. If only 10% of people take inspiration from this release, then we are surely at the beginning of something mind-blowing ahead of us.
