ABOUT THIS ITEM
Way back when, Scuba was at the forefront of a wave of dubstep producers moving towards a tougher 4/4 / techno sound, with his relocation to Berlin having a profound influence on his 2008 debut long player "A Mutual Antipathy". His 2010 follow up "Triangulation" went even further, sounding tailor-made for his Substance club night at the mighty Berghain. Having checked out the selection of tracks on his recent DJ Kicks mix CD (pretty much techno meets UK bass), you might be forgiven for expectiing more of the same for new long player "Personality", but you'd be wrong. Scuba's third LP for Hotflush Recordings takes another big leap, aiming for 'Big Dance Album' territory - think Underworld, Leftfield and the Chemical Brothers rolled into one, then fed through a 2012 bass generator. Featuring 11 brand new tracks, the album takes in a wealth of genres across contemporary (and retro) dance music, including electro (old and new school), drum & bass, dubstep, techno, house, rave, and even a touch of breakbeat. Scuba pulls all these disparate styles together, imbuing each with his own distinct production sound (or 'Personality'!), and proving once again his place at the cutting edge of the electronic music scene.
