ABOUT THIS ITEM
Riding the crest of the nu-Balearic wave, master crate-digger Joel Martin and Radio Slave's Matt Edwards followed up three feverishly received 12"s on cult NY label Whatever We Want with a full length Quiet Village album for K7. The scene is set with the lazy seashore soundscapes of "Victoria's Secret" (complete with squawking seagulls), before heading off the beach and into a darkened bar for beard-rock favourite "Circus Of Horror" ("Free Rider" and "Broken Promises" follow suit). There's sassy lounge soul on "Too High To Move" and the best Chic-style disco meets cod reggae track you'll ever hear on "Pacific Rhythm", plus more evocative rain swept street scenes with "Broken Promises". Taking influences from Italian film soundtracks, library music, cosmic disco, acid rock and vintage soul, the pair have come up with one of the best down-tempo long players of the year, and Piccadilly Records biggest seller for 2008. Just don't call it chill-out!
