The debut album from Kevin Shields's classic guitar band perfectly captures the band in their transition from fey indie janglers, through their infatuation with the Sonic Youth school of discordant guitar noise and hints at their unison of the two styles that reached its apogee in 1991's "Loveless". Melodic but angular where its successor is otherworldly and dreamlike, "Isn't Anything" is nonetheless an indie classic containing such brilliant tracks as "Soft As Snow (But Warm Inside)" and "Feed Me With Your Kiss".
