ABOUT THIS ITEM

Subtitled 'Tales Of The New York Underground 1981 - 1988', this collection brings together the classic Konk recordings of the 1980s, from their releases on labels as diverse as Rough Trade, Sleeping Bag, 99 Records, Les Disques Du Crepuscle and Celluloid. Formed by avant-jazz head Dana Vlcek, Konk soon became part of the no wave / post-punk scene that was mushrooming around Lower East Side of Manhattan clubs and bars like Save The Robots, the Mudd Club, Danceteria, CBGB's, Tr 3, Max's Kansas City etc in the late 70s / early 80s. Taking influences from afro-beat (Fela Kuti, Manu Dibango, King Sunny Ade), early hip hop (Grandmaster Flash, Funky 4 + 1 etc), jazz, funk and later electro, Konk created their own unique sound. With original releases of these tracks going for silly amounts, this LP is a must for all fans of the New York post-punk scene.
