ABOUT THIS ITEM
With sought-after releases on Ten Thousand Yen, PMR, Soul Motive, 3024, and FutureBoogie amongst others, and having positioned himself right at the vanguard of the new wave of forward-looking house producers, Julio Bashmore has taken time out to set up his very own record label, Broadwalk Records LTD, which he launches with this 12".
"Au Seve" is a simple funky house groove that references a UK garage kind of skippiness, killer bassline melody and sizzling cymbal-driven rhythm. Next we have the first of two (or possibly three) unnamed tracks. "A2" pays homage to Jimmy Castor, or samples his much-used spoken vocal intro 'What we're gonna do right here is go back, way back...', lacing it liberally over a haunting 80s pop tinted house cut.
It's on side B that things get confusing... 1) I'm not sure if there's one or two tracks, and, 2) I had to get Dave in mailorder over to help me work out the correct speed (the first track speeds up, just to be extra confusing) (in the end I reckon it's all 33rpm). Anyway, what we have is slowed-down electro-boogie mixed with synthwave style house or slo-mo soul ballads drenched with lush washes. This might be all one track, but there is a gap halfway through, so it's possibly two. Who knows... Perfect for late nights, early mornings or late afternoons when everyone's imbibed just a bit too much of everything. A pitched-down, sampladelic, slo-mo, drift-along, boogie beauty...
