ABOUT THIS ITEM
Raised in Haifa, Israel, now located in Amsterdam, this duo of sonic explorers have had acclaimed releases on a host of cult labels like Psychostasia, Underground Quality, Philpot and many more. Grounded in jazz, the duo soon began experimenting with electronic music, fusing influences as disparate as Ornette Coleman, Can, Mr Fingers and Cabaret Voltaire into what can best be described as music from the future, gazing deeply into the past. Now they join the esteemed Golf Channel imprint for their latest offering.
"Chelm Is Burning" is the first in a four part EP & DVD series, an imaginary soundtrack to Paul Wegener's 1920 German silent film classic 'The Golem: How He Came Into The World', based on the centuries old clay monster which haunts Jewish folklore. The track is a low-slung cosmic house / punk-disco offering which rattles along the train tracks, driven by a dirty post-punk bassline, synth-fill abstraction and all sorts of dubbed-out atmospherics. Dark and brooding, this is a mid-tempo epic of some substance. Flipside cut "Chelm Is Dubbing" is a more straight-ahead acidic tech-house, albeit one with plenty of grime under its fingernails.
