ABOUT THIS ITEM

"The Shew Would Have Cushioned The Blow" will not disappoint anyone waiting for more of Orbison’s trademark manipulated vocal hooks, bouncy and sharp beats and euphoric synth drones. His formula is in full effect here and it sounds just as good as his first outing. Crossing that cybernetic boundary of future beats / techno and ghetto-soul, Orbison makes lush melodies for the harsh urban age and I love it. "So Derobe" is more minimal and stripped back (and comes with original Roland midi drum sounds that came with every keyboard in high school! New lo-fi digital technology scene alert!). A male vocal line is played with in that Joy-full way and creates a dreamy, emotional chorus. If "The Shrew..." and "Hyph Mngo" where Joy Orbison's ode to the ravers, then "So Derobe" is his ballad to all the urban lovers - stick this on your mixtape for your east London ghetto-fly girlfriend (or boyfriend). Finally Werk Discs / Prime Numbers wonderkid Actress comes in on remix duties applying his analogue, bubbling synth sounds to "The Shrew That Would Cushion The Blow". Adding some twangy electronics and sharp bleeps, along with extra vocal samples and circus like sound effects, Actress takes the track into more of a stoner electronic-head-fuck for getting horizontal to in the post-club wind-down.
