Following edit maestro Onur Engin's Freddie Hubbard / Flowers release on GAMM was never going to be easy, but once again he delivers two excellent and respectful rewires of perennial classics for the label with this new twelve. Side A  features his rework of James Mason's "Sweet Power, Your Embrace", which keeps all the best bits of the original (killer vocal, uplifting keyboard lines, big horns and all that Moog work) and adds a simple 4/4 beat underneath. He's done a bit of a rearrange as well, so everything builds to the vocal, then we have a breakdown, then more vocal. Nice. The downtempo vibes of Kool & The Gang's "Summer Madness" make the track the perfect recipient of a looping, slo-mo rework, and that's what Onur has done here. Again, he teases up with plenty of build up until that killer synth lift arrives.
