If you wanted to invent the perfect underground dance outfit for 2008, Hercules And Love Affair would be it. New York-based and featuring a trio of alternative / club folk (lesbian singer, club promoter and jewellery designer Kim Ann Foxman, transvestite future pop star Nomi, Antony 'And The Johnsons' Hegarty), gathered around DJ / song-writer / producer Andy Turner, the group channel the twin influences of disco and house (and a few Greek myths) to create something fresh for the 00s. Then factor in the DFA label excitedly signing them after hearing a couple of demos (passed along by Daniel Wang, just to add extra cred), a host of fantastic songs (Frankie Knuckles "Your Love"-infused "Time Will", alt-disco-fuelled anthem "Blind", Qualude-paced "Easy" etc) and co-production by Tim Goldsworthy, and you have one of the best albums of 2008.
