"Aoxomoxoa" was proof of the adage 'difficult-third-album' syndrome. Free of label supervision the Dead's expensive profligacy in the studio ran wild, it produced some adventurous and groundbreaking work but with the self-indulgency that too much money, time and substance abuse can engender. Recorded on the new state of the art 16-track tape decks and trying out new artistic forays for the first time it nevertheless has some great moments. Now remastered with HDCD sound and featuring three instrumental jam sessions and a live version of "Cosmic Charlie".
