"Soca Sound System" is the first in a year long arc of releases from Ghislain Poirier on Ninja Tune feature original productions focusing on various street music aesthetics that Ghislain rocks so well. So, number one fixes its attention on the energetic Caribbean music of soca, the part-calypso, part-dancehall party sound that rocks carnivals across the globe. Obviously, with Ghislain in charge, this isn't straight-up soca, but a soca soundclash, taking in the kind of booming basslines, dirty synths and jump-cuts beloved of fidget house and electro. Speedy raps come from Face-T, MC Zulu and Mr. Slaughter, and there's an instrumental too.
