ABOUT THIS ITEM

Combining the multi-layered propulsive rhythms of Arcade Fire with a very British sounding indie pop (circa C86 / Postcard Records era) they've created a really great album that balances intensity and fragility perfectly. Layers of delicate acoustics and Simon Balthazars wonderfully faltering vocals are embelished with chugging drums, handclaps, pianos, strings and trumpets that at times are jaunty and upbeat and at others melancholic. There's a hint of Beirut in their sound partly due the use of trumpets and partly Simon's vocals, (which also remind me at times of Edwyn Collins and David Byrne at others!), but it's a very individual sounding album. It was produced by Peter Kartis who's worked with The National and Interpol amongst others and he's given them a huge sound - melancholic and uplifting at the same time! Don't miss this!
Not content with releasing just one box set version of their debut album, Fanfarlo have now released a second one, and this one is even nicer than the first! Packaged in a 7" square, grey linen box with red foil blocked mask imagery on the lid, apart from the album itself, there is also a second CD with eight songs - album outtakes and exlusive, unreleased material. Both CD's come in 'optical illusion' cases. This special edition also contain beautiful fold out art on heavy paper, with song lyrics and photography by Lilja Birgisdottir. But the pièce de résistance is probably... the board game, with it's own special Fanfarlo dice! Lovely!
