ABOUT THIS ITEM

After a series of parties in London, Wavey Tones launches its premier platter in the form of the debut release from 25 year old Putney-based producer Emma Davies, who hails from Merseyside. Although a new name to many, Emma has been making bizarre electronic music for a good four years now, and already counts Sully, Zomby, Adam Sky (ex Adamski) and Congo Natty as fans. The Tudor-esque melodies of "Rainbow Dust" were first revealed to the public at large through Sully's FACT mix last year, where it was one of the only productions not penned by the producer himself. Like a lot of enduring dance music, it strikes the difficult note of being both euphoric and melancholic in equal measure. A lo-fi epic propped up by waves of sub and minimalist 90's drums, the rich melodic content is just as evocative for home listening as it is on a big soundsystem, where it can be one of those tunes that defines a whole set when you drop it. Flip the record over for double-A "Dream Phone", which combines Emma's unique take on melody and space with the current UK Bass sound, and then manages to squash it into a 3/4 template in disarmingly comfortable fashion for someone so early in their career. This isn't one of those gimmicky 'experimenting with time signatures' tracks that never get played either; it does serious dancefloor damage. Expect to find some of the more skilled DJs working this into their sets.
