ABOUT THIS ITEM

The 75th release by Pressure Sounds is a storming dub set by producer Dennis Bovell. We have 16 new mixes of tracks originally recorded between 1978 and 1986. All the tracks have been sourced from original masters and have been remixed by Dennis Bovell at Mad Professors studio Ariwa in South London.

Dennis came up with the idea of returning to unfinished as down in his musical lock-up lay a stack of boxes containing old 2" multi-track analogue master tapes, some dating back to the late 70s; Dennis selected some likely looking titles that never had dub treatment and arranged some time in Neil Fraser’s (the Mad Professor) studio as he knew the Prof had every gadget under the sun, there he “baked” tapes ready for digital conversion via an Alesis HD24 a 24 track, 48kHz hard disk recorder rescuing the sounds from an inevitable oxidization process that comes with age. At the mixing end Dennis utilizes a whole range of outboard gear from old analogue to the latest digital sets, explaining the unique and separate end sounds of the dubs presented on the album

It’s a ferocious beast of a record featuring some of the best remixes we have heard in a long time. The cream of the UK's reggae session player’s feature on the record. There are also a couple of vocal guest appearances by one of Jamaica’s greatest ever DJs I Roy.

Dennis Bovell is a producer who totally understands both the art of remixing and sound system culture. Bovells musical collaborations stretch from reggae through to artists such as The Thompson Twins, Alpha Blondy, The Pop Group, Fela Kuti, The Slits, Orange Juice and Madness. He has also worked with the dub poet Linton Kwesi Johnson for much of his working life. But it’s dub music that holds a special place in Bovells heart and ‘Mek It Run’ is a fine addition to Dennis Bovells previous work in this sub-genre.

16 tracks spread over a double vinyl and single CD. An excellent set of sleeve notes by Steve Barker and artwork and illustrations by John Simms who was responsible for the graphics for the Two Tone label. Photographs from Adrian Boot and David Corio. Another winner from Pressure Sounds.
