ABOUT THIS ITEM

GAMM offshoot Basic Fingers are back with their third release. This time the label bring us two strong remixes from Los Angeles based DJ / producer Jose Marquez. His sound has often been described as a fusion of deep Afro-Latin soul and percussive dancefloor rhythms, something perfectly showcased on this release.

First track, "Elegua" is by one of the most influential female figures in the history of Cuban music, La Guarachera de Cuba, Celia Cruz. The remix by Jose is a massive percussive house bomb that teases out a seductive rhythm (shakers, cowbells, bongos etc) before bringing in Celia and backing singers for a call and response vocal. Add some siren-like synth work and you get the finiashed article. Both deep and spiritual, this cut is guaranteed to move the dancefloor. The second track is a strong remix of Femi Kuti, oldest son of legendary Fela Kuti. Jose has transformed the original, without losing its feeling and turned it into a more house oriented track. Fans of Osunlade or Louie Vega will definitely want to get their hands on this one.
