ABOUT THIS ITEM

A radical and veritable manifesto, "Pop Electronique" is a cult record that the English enviously wish they could claim as their own (Hey Frenchies, what happened to the Entent Cordial!?). A piece of extreme and atypical instrumental madness with an alien edge, the album is the brainchild of Cecil Leuter. Behind this enigmatic pseudonym actually lies Roger Roger, uber-prolific French composer of several 100 records for TV, theatre and radio and doted with an immediately recognisable style that mixes classicism with the avant-garde. He quickly foresaw the revolutionary potential of new emerging technologies through time spent at the ORTF. His music would never be the same again. By the end of the 60s he threw himself into musical experimentation, combining early beat boxes with the intense use of synths, mixing acoustic and electronic music together. "Pop Electronique" is the perfect, successful culmination of these explorations. A crazed record composed of a super groovy A-side, bringing together strong Moog deflagrations, and a much more minimal, strictly electronic B-side. Situated somewhere between Pierre Henry and Michel Colombiers "Messe Pour Le Temps Present" and Jean-Jacques Perrey's "Moog Indigo", "Pop Electronique" is one of those pioneering and magical records.
