Aster is the brainchild of Jami Bassols aka JMII and Pedro Rufí aka Pettre, two young Barcelonian producers with a shared love for classic house, cosmic music and analogue machinery. “Danza” is their debut on Hivern despite being regular remixes and colaborators. The four-track EP is both an introduction to their enthralling sonic vision and the opening release of a 12” trilogy that will be completed in the following months. The release kick-starts with the syncopated rolling drums of “Assis”, which are soon matched with gliding melodies and gloomy gregorian chants to create a more than enigmatic atmosphere. The contrast between tropical tingled rhythms, shiny synths and tenebrous vocals creates an an overall haunting effect in which is probably the most adventurous track of the pack. “Lamento Castellano” fuses highly nostalgic chords with a scattered but fully on target acid bassline that gets propelled by a wisely constructed 707 rhythm. A highly evocative track and one for the emotional house lovers. Opening the other side of the vinyl, “Danza” starts with meditative notes but soon gets launched by epic ravey pads and forceful hi-hats that delineate the most floor-oriented composition of the EP. Matching it, a brain melting remix by Brooklyn's wunderkid Ital, of 100% Silk and Planet Mu fame. Daniel Martin McCormick introduces old school vibes through spooky vocal samples before tweaking the track's vibe with obsessive bass sequences, obstinate conga-driven rhythms and slightly psychotic melodies. All three 12”s of the trilogy will come wrapped in a rather special artwork conceived by world renowed catalan graphic designer Alex Trochut, with serial sleeves based in the marbled papers of barcelonian artist Montse Buxó, who creates fascinating designs with an unique artisan technique
